Focus. Working to Stay Focused.

I got home after 9pm last night. I was tired and hungry. I was pissed that my time at the gym didn't count and I had to run 2 miles. I plugged in my iPod, changed and got going - no point dragging it out a minute longer than necessary. I was surprised at how easily I fell into my 4.0 pace. My music choices these days are far from my usual - Eminem, Beyonce and the like. The last 2 times I have found songs like 'Chicken Fried' by Zac Brown Band and Tim McGraw's 'Live Like You Were Dying' to be keeping me moving. Running on the t'mill last night was actually nice; I gave in to the urge to sing along. Loudly.

I inhaled a salad after running - with grilled chicken, swiss chard, feta and some plain macaroni. My dressing of choice these days is one that I had been taking a break from:

1. Peel and crush a lot of garlic. Think 8 or 10 cloves in a 3 cup mason jar.
2. Put crushed into jar of your choice and sprinkle with salt. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes (this breaks down the cell walls and lets all the goodness out).
3. Put in your olive oil and vinegar, with a ratio of about 1:3.
4. Add some other spices if you like - onion powder? rosemary? oregano? basil?

This is potent! It is also really good, and the raw garlic is great for your immune system.

I'm still not sure what my routine or commitment is going to look like - if I will commit to cutting out all processed sugar for a month and then reevaluate or go back to religiously logging my food in MFD. I want something reasonable, but achievable. Until I know, my goal is to work out each day and to post my food on here for all y'all to investigate. As I decide more, I'll let you know.

  1. Ahhh, I don't love those days when the running gets put off until the last minute. I had one of those the other day. At least you know you'll feel better when it's done! Jessica

  3. The dressing is really easy, definitely something you adjust to your own taste.
It's true Jessica, I really did feel great after the run. It reminds me of my John Bingham shirt about the miracle isn't that I finished, the miracle is that I had the courage to start.
