Getting There From Here

How did I go from the 1/2 way dance just a little over a week ago to the hot mess I was yesterday? I'm guessing it's the lack of sleep mixed with my off mood and the fact that I tried to do the run at noon - a really off time for me. Still, I went in committed to doing the entire 99 minutes, armed with my Chomps and Bloks and some Gatorade (watered down to decrease the number of calories I would take in and because I don't like the taste). By the time I started running at 7 minutes I was nervous about making it to the end of the time - feeling too hot, a bit nauseous and, like I said, not in the best mood. I ran for 15 minutes before throwing in the towel and walking, slooooooowly. I didn't even walk the entire 99 minutes, but quit stopped at 55 minutes with a mere 3.05 miles done.

I was feeling pretty bad about the whole thing, but here are my thoughts at this point:

1. I really need some new songs on my iPod. The old songs just aren't cutting it anymore. I also need a good fight song to make me move when I'm feeling angry in the midst of a run. Am I the only one who gets angry/frustrated sometimes in the middle of a run?

2. I can always try again today.

3. Each individual run doesn't dictate whether or not I'm a runner. I am a runner because I say I am and because I will get up and try again.

Walking: 3 mph (20 min/mile) ~ 0% Incline min.23
Running: 15 min/mile (4 mph) ~ 0% Incline min.113
Walking: 3 mph (20 min/mile) ~ 0% Incline min.108

  1. I listen to podcasts on my runs. Usually for about 3/4 of it and then I switch to music. Breaks things up for me.

Your #3 is awesome. Keep repeating that one. I hope today is better.

  2. Thanks! The podcast idea is a great one, or even just books on tape.
