Testing, Testing

I went for a 1 mile run tonight when I got home from work, since I like having my run days set for Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. I just wanted to try out the heart rate monitor run, and I am so glad that I did! It turns out that I when switch between running at 4.0, 4.4 and 5.0 is keeps my heart rate in the correct zone: low 150's to the mid 160's. It explains why I feel really good after my speed runs, and not so good after my long runs. I think that my distance days have been too much for my endurance level.

I am going to do a full 30-45 minute run tomorrow, but the mile today offered me some good base line information.

I will do some strength training tonight after dinner, hopefully while watching some Dexter, to round out my short workout.

Enjoy your night! I will catch y'all tomorrow with the details of my run and some more details about how my weekend went.

  1. Yay for technology allowing us to become better runners! I made an effort to watch my pace during my last long run and it made a HUGE difference.

BTW, one random thing I love about your blog... The fact that you use the word y'all.
I'm a Georgia girl, so any southern slang just sounds like home. lol. :)

  2. I'm glad you're using that heart monitor. The point here is to feel great, right? Get the most out of your runs, and don't push yourself to the point where you won't look forward to getting out there tomorrow and doing it all again. You're learning so much through trial and error, and it's such an interesting process. Thank you for sharing your experiences with the whole worldwide web!

  3. Thats interesting! I have never used a heart rate monitor, but I know that my heart rate definitely soars during interval training. Have a great run tomorrow! (Wait, I guess you probably already did it...I hope it went well!)

  4. Thanks! I find it very helpful to have an impartial "voice" in my runs telling me to try a little harder or to back off a bit. It doesn't do much for when my legs are tired or if my belly is feeling off, but it's still a great tool. You can find them for relatively cheap on Amazon.
