March is a busy month for me, but I am hoping to start on Runners' World book about nutrition and performance. I will let everyone know how it's going when I get into it. Oh, and I think my giveaway is going to be coming up soon, so stay tuned!
5k races? Check. 10k? Check. Half-marathon? Check. Centered, balanced lifestyle? Not so much. Follow me as I share my journey to treat my body and soul well, grow my own food and find that centered place that seems to only come at the end of a yoga class.

Oh, right! I knew that....
I realized tonight one of the biggest reasons that my running is off right now. I have stopped stretching! I did a quick warm-up on the treadmill tonight and then did strength exercises. I followed this up by a lot of stretching. It took a fair amount of patience to touch my toes while bent over my outstretched legs. That's when I realized more than the salt and the fat or the movie watching and sleeping in, my lack of stretching was causing my legs to feel weighted down. So now, as it was and should be, I am looking forward to my run tomorrow!

Stretching is so fundemental that we mistakenly overlook its importance. There's a reason they made us do it in gym class!
ReplyDeleteStretching is crucial. Besides the weights, do you do other cross training (serious cycling, swimming, etc)?
ReplyDeleteI found that yoga really stretched me out and balanced my muscles, helping me to feel stronger and less injury-prone when hiking and doing lots of flights of stairs at work.
