How to Pack for a One Night, Two Day Work Trip

Far too early tomorrow morning I will be off for an overnight work adventure. In order to keep to my training schedule, I will be running at 5am tomorrow. I spoke with the judge who is overseeing my training (more affectionately referred to as 'my husband') and we agree that it will not be easy to reach my 30g/fiber, 90g/protein goal. However, what that means is I must try my best, and I cannot eat any of the junk food that will inevitably be at the conference. I think such a sacrifice demonstrates commitment and an honest effort. I also think that this picture demonstrates an honest effort, perhaps a bit too honest.

What you see there is my best attempt at being 'that person'. That is protein and fiber dense food (one sandwich is maple tempeh on an english muffin and one is peanut butter and jelly) right there! Yogurt! Vanilla protein powder! Almond milk! Lettuce to go with the lentils! 2 protein bars (19 and 20 grams of protein respectively with 180 calories each)! Oh, and I can't forget the good 'ole chemicals to keep me drinking a lot of water and avoiding any snack tray that doesn't have fruit or salad. The strawberry kiwi is by Kellogg and offers 5 grams of protein and grams of fiber. The peach mango is Crystal Light, which is a Kraft product. This doesn't offer much aside from flavor. These are my guilty pleasures, along with Skinny Cow. I strive to eat local foods that are as unprocessed as possible, but there are just some times I need a distraction and I get that from the flavored water. There are other times when a mouthful of full-fat chocolate ice cream just won't cut it, no matter how local and organic it is; I want the whole sundae! These are the occasional tradeoffs I will make in an effort to keep the sugar monster safely away from the hands and feet of any small children and elderly bystanders I come in contact with each day.

Ok, so there you have it, tomorrow and Friday I will be away for a work meeting! I will be meeting new people and striving to display my comprehension of all that I have learned since starting my new job 5 months ago. It's all good though, because lugging around the cooler bag, which is actually pretty cool, brings me closer to my American Eagle gift card and keeps me true to the real KT80. Oh, I almost forget the most important reason of all. When Omnichef comes to visit in a few weeks I can enjoy all the amazing food he will cook without any guilt!

  1. It looks like you've prepared well. I love flavored water as well. I figure I drink a whole lot more so it's worth it! Good luck and have fun!

  2. Your willpower is truly mighty. And don't sweat the flavored water if it's keeping you away from the dessert tray. It's awesome that you know yourself (and conference food) well enough to bring your own nomnoms from home. You're an inspiration, Miss Katie.

  3. Thank you! I did actually enjoy myself, and I didn't find myself longing for much of the food there. I can't lie, the brownies did look pretty amazing though.
