February's Finish Line

My goals for January were about establishing a workout habit. I committed to 3 days per week of running and 2 days per week of Jillian Michaels as well as 7 days per week of logging my food in My Food Diary (MFD). I met each of these goals and given how short of a month February is, I am well on my way to an American Eagle shopping spree!

Deciding on goals for February has been tough. I knew I needed to tackle my diet, but I wanted to be sure that my focus was positive. Instead of 'not eating this' and 'being sure to avoid that' I wanted to be focusing on what I would be doing and what I would be eating. I went back through my January log (MFD offers insightful information) and easily found what was missing. My protein intake and my fiber intake are far below my optimal intake level, especially given the miles I have been running and the torture that Jillian bestows upon me 2x/week.

You're hearing it first, February's goals!

1. Log my food into MFD 7 days/week
2. Do 2 short runs (30-45 minutes)/week
3. Do 1 long (mileage increases over time) run/week
4. Do Jillian Michaels 2 days/week
5. Eat at least 120 grams of protein per day
6. Eat at least 40 grams of fiber per day

Goals #4 and #5 seem far fetched, but it wasn't long ago that I thought running 5 miles (which, BTW, I did on Saturday morning, straight through with no break to walk) was also unattainable. Eating some extra tofu and broccoli shouldn't really be that difficult.

Oh, here is the link to MFD. The site requires a $9/month fee, but I find it worth the price. There is also SparkPeople, another great calorie tracker that is free to use. I prefer MFD for their customer support and interface as well as the reports they generate for users.

  1. I feel bad for stealing yet another blog idea from you, but they are so good! lol.
I don't know why I didn't think of posting monthly goals... But it makes sense!
Now to come up with some goals for February (I'm a little late... I'm in South Korea and it is already the night of February 1st here).

  2. A little late is no big deal, and besides I'm sure that your day yesterday fits into your goals. If not, having today be day 1 is better than not having any day be day 1.
