Don't Be Hungry

I came across a conversation on Runner's World that talked about the weight people gain when training for half and full marathons. Yikes! Eating a lot of fiber and protein is going to be key to keeping me going, not growing, during my training.

Breakfast: wrap with chicken breast, feta, mustard and cucumber (46 grams of protein, 17 grams of carbs and 10 grams of fat for 352 calories).
Snack: 1/4 cup plain yogurt with granola bar
Lunch: 2/3 cup rice with 203 grams of eggwhites with about 3 tablespoons of soyaki
Snack: 2 prunes, 3/4 bag 100 calorie popcorn, 46 grams of dried mango and 4 squares of dark chocolate
Dinner: Salad - lettuce, beet greens, cucumber, carrot, chicken and oil/vinegar dressing
Post-workout snack: slice of bread with 1 tablespoon peanut butter and 1 tablespoon of marmalade
Snack: Kashi granola bar

Workout: 1 mile run and Jillian Michael's workout

My total breakdowns for the day were 24% fat, 50% carbs and 26% protein. Got it. Less yummy mango goodness and more protein. Even more than hungry, I am feeling tired so it's off to bed now.

Here is the link to the conversation that was on Runners World:

  4. Is the whole SCA crew going healthy? lol. I started running last week. Feels fabulous! Good to hear Katie! Thanks for letting me know. Great blog too. Where did you get the idea and motivation for a marathon?

  5. Damn, girlfriend. I'm so proud of you! How are you doing during the week? For me, that's the hardest part. I let myself get too danged hungry and then, when strapped for time, I grab the closest edible object, which is usually a bag of chips or Joe's leftover Chinese food or something. It isn't pretty. Dieting totally counter-intuitive, but you've got a marathon for motivation! Can you and Schuyler create a mock-up photo of you crossing the finish line-- arms triumphantly skyward and all that..? I think if you keep the photo in your wallet and force yourself to look at it when you want to skip your daily run or eat a bunch of cookies, you'll be golden.

  8. I'm not much of a runner or expert training for a marathon but KUDOS to you. I know YOU can do it and I'll learn something from your experience too :).

  9. Thanks Lilli! I'm by no means an expert either, but I am starting to think of myself as a runner. I think part of it is that I look at a magnet on my fridge every day that says, 'I know I run like a girl, Try to keep up". I've never trained for anything this long before, except maybe graduate school, but I gained 10 pounds during that process!
