Getting Settled In

The meeting yesterday went well, and was very productive. I am in Milwaukee until Friday morning for a conference and this has been great so far! I love when I participate in something that actually puts into practice the values it proclaims. This is about preventing childhood obesity and promoting healthy lifestyles. Well, the conference has exercise time, field trips and good snacks (a trail mix station with cereals, fruits (fresh and dried) and nuts). Yeah!

I went for a short run after checking in, to help wake myself up. My hip didn't hurt at all, which is great, but I am not sure why. I played with my speed a bit, going between 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0. I did 2 miles in 28:41.

I have been doing really good keeping at my new calorie range. There really is something so motivating about eating for my ideal body composition. Like I said, it's as if I can be at my goal even though I'm not yet. There is something very positive about 'eating to maintain' instead of thinking about what I'm not eating and the calories that I am avoiding.

The coffee I got is kicking in, and I am feeling more energized for the networking tonight.

Do you count calories? Have you ever used a food diary?

  1. I have never counted calories. It sounds like so much work although I know there are some great apps for things like that now.

  2. I counted calories/fat/protein/carbs for a few days just out of curiosity to see what I was at. It's soooo much work and I'm kind of lazy so I stopped. But man oh man is it a GOOD way to regulate what you eat! Somehow writing down all those calories for that candy/chocolate/dessert keeps me accountable!

  3. I don't count calories, but have in the past. I just got too caught in the numbers. I'm still aware of them, but if something is high in numbers and I only eat it every so often, I don't let it bother me too much as long as it's not something I eat every day

  4. I love the DailyPlate online... it does all the tabulating for you and has a lot of the brands already saved in there. Handy for the lazy lap topper like me.

  5. I write down what I eat, but I don't track calories because that has lead to issues for me in the past. But I do like holding myself accountable for what I'm putting in my body... it keeps me from eating junk. lol

  6. I've considered counting calories a few times, but I've realized that it just isn't for me. Instead, I keep a general idea in my head of what I've eaten, and usually my body tells me if I've overdone it :)

  7. It's interesting to think about the different ways to be mindful of nutrition. I find that I just eat way too much if I'm not careful about tracking my food. At the same time, I don't like being a slave to the numbers and the diary.
