The Magic Ingredients

Finally! I have found the magic ingredient to reignite my running mojo. Actually, it is more than one ingredient:

1. R (in this case stands for 'run') - 5 hours = 1 Bud Light Lime
2. R - 3 hours = Fried shrimp (local, lovely shrimp from right up the road), french fries, hush puppies, collard greens
3. R - 45 minutes = Nap

Change clothes, insert ear buds and be sure husband knows your route is on your computer since it is fast approaching dark. What does this magic recipe get you? 4.5 miles in 55:57! Runners World Pace Calculator averages that out to a 12:26 pace!

My 11 week training schedule is set. I have 3 runs per week listed, same as before: 2 runs per week that are 30 minutes a piece and 1 distance run per week. With the half marathon not that far away, even though September seems a long ways off, I needed to get serious about running. I am sticking close to Jeff Galloway plan for my running and will come up with mini-goals around my diet and other exercises. I think the next thing I am going to tackle are my pushups. I miss doing full form (is that the best way to say 'boy pushups'?) pushups.

What are your magic ingredients?

  2. That's such a good idea! Especially the nap one =) Getting in a run during the Florida summer (oh... March-November?) is so difficult, kudos to you for getting out there and doing it.

It's way twisted and probably unhealthy, but my motivation to run is the guilt I would feel if I didn't. I know, it's messed up... ;)

  3. Oooo..one of my running buddies here uses Jeff Galloway's walk-run method in his half-marathons and marathons and has found that they really help him, especially in how he recovers from the races. And Newt's 69 and still going strong with running! He's racing Boston today.

Hmm...magic ingredients...I think mine is just how much better anything I eat tastes after I've been running, biking or swimming. Not so much that I feel ok eating what I eat because I've been exercising, but when I'm sweaty and hungry from working out food just tastes so much better. And I find that I crave less sugary stuff when I'm exercising consistently, which I also like. :)

  4. Hey Katie,
Love your magic ingredients and missed you SO much last weekend at the cohort get together but I talked about your birthday pretty much the whole time :) Miss you tons. Good luck with your recipe for awesomeness.

  6. What's your opinion on the fad of "barefoot running", or its cousin the Vibram shoe?

  8. I haven't used Galloway's walk/run method, but I do try to give myself a walk break if I really need it. I'm not so good at deciding I need it though. I like the way he staggers the miles so that you don't do too much to quickly. Rewards are great! They really help to keep me on track! As for barefoot running, there are a few bloggers on here that go that way. I don't think it would be for me, since I need extra support, but I think there are some people who it definitely works well for. It makes sense, but for me, my feet are too sensitive.
