Warning: iPod Shuffle - Full Disclosure

Plugged or unplugged? From what I can gather, whether or not to run with music is the age old debate in running. I always run plugged into my iPod. Except during a race; listening to everyone's conversations is just too interesting to pass up! There are the songs that keep me moving, the songs that set my pace and the songs that are just for fun. Sometimes when I hear one of my playlist songs on the radio I get shaky and jittery like a junkie. It seems that my body knows those songs mean 'Move it!'.

What pretell are these magical songs of which I speak? Well, they really run the gamut, mostly the gamut of music that I only turn up when I am alone in my car or trying to impress upon my husband that I might have missed my calling as a rockstar. I will share you with my top 10 so as not to bore with you my entire workout playlist:

1. 18 Wheeler by Pink
2. Stupid Girls by Pink
3. 'Till I Collapse by Eminem
4. Fighter  by Christina Aguilera
5. Survivor by Destiny's Child
6. Single Ladies by Beyonce
7. Best of Both Worlds by Hannah Montana
8. Lose Control by Missy Elliot
9. I'll Be Missing You by Puff Daddy
10. I Should Be Sleeping by Emerson Drive

There you have it, the identity crisis that is my iPod and keeps my husband wondering when his wife morphed into a 13 year old, teenage girl. Though, as I look over these songs I realize that only 3 of them are by male singers and they all have a similar message.

I leave you now to head out on my distance run, but I hope you will share your playlists and the songs that get you moving. Wish me luck as I try to run all 5 miles this morning.

  1. Haha, glad to see that I'm not the only one who still thinks "Stupid Girls" is an awesome song.
Right now, I've been really feeling Michael Franti's music, especially "Sound of Sunshine"
It is a super upbeat happy song and it helps me to keep feeling positive during my runs, even when my legs start wanting to kill me! LOL

I think I'll post my running playlist on my blog later this week.

  2. Wow, Mrs.Q318 I see that song joining me for quite a few miles!

"I vow to start viewing myself and thinking of myself as an athlete and a runner. I promise to fix my bad sleeping habits, to fuel my body properly, and to stay focused on my goals. I swear to stand by my word because I deserve to achieve this." That sounds strangely familiar... :)

  3. Oh, I really hope I can stick to that promise.
I know it won't be easy... But, then again, if it were easy, the reward wouldn't be nearly as sweet. :)
